Monday, October 16, 2006 Geography Trip 12-15 October 2006 Summerset Bay Kuala Rompin
I LOVED it! I wish I were back there again.
There were 40 of us. We left on Thursday at 1:00 pm, during lunch. The coach was quite uncomfortable and I tried to sleep but kept waking up because of the noise. We reach the Summerset resort at about 5:30 pm. We were given our keys. I shared a room with May (only two per room). We had free time until dinner, that was great for all of us. It gave us all time to have a look around the hotel and to get familiar with it. Dinner was scruptious! There was crab, prawns, vegetables, desert of fruits and caked and tarts, salads, basically, it was all delicious.
Then the fun really started. We were all to meet in a meeting room. We were all showed how to tie a pareo (sarong). There were so may styles! There was a guy's style which was very funny because there was room to put food in so it was called the picnic basket. haha! Now, this is FREAKY. The recreation manager called out for Miss Summerset to show the girls how to tie their pareo. Miss Summerset turned out to be a MAN!!! As in like a man wit all those...organs and stuff. He...no, she...no...IT had a body of a woman but a face of a man. FREAKY!!! After the presentation, we had a night walk. We had to go in a group of four (Ju, May, Ji Ye and I) and walk on a path in the forest WITHOUT any light at all. All we had was a few lamps to Guide us where to go. My group was really screaming out heads off. As in like screaming 90% of the time and whimpering/talking/singing/keeping quiet 10% of the time. Luckily, the group behind us (four guys-Luke, Jyethe, Jia Yung and Victor) caught up really quickly. Not only was it dark, but there were people under white peieces of cloth to scare us and there were growls and snorts too. The first snort really made us girls scream. We got lost in the middle but one the "ghosts" pointed the way. Two of us (including me) were really screaming a lot so we didn't see where the "ghost" was pointing. BUT! It was really fun after coming out of it.
On the second day, May and I woke up a bit late for breakfast. That was delicious too. After that, we had team building. We had to fill a barrel with sea water and then roll it up the sand ridge. After that, we had to see which team could build the highest sand pile (supposedly a sand castle) and then to run to the water with a stick and turn around seven times then come back up one at a time. After that, we did the most digusting thing ever. We had a peat swamp challenge. EURGH! The water was up to my waist and I slipped twice. Not only that, but we had to carry an egg with us. Each egg costs 10 points. None of us cracked it! Haha!
Then all of us showered. We just HAD to! Lunch time! As usual, awesome food! Then we met at the beach again and started to do some geography activities. We measured the slope of the beach in two different areas. We were all in groups of eight (Ju, May, Ji Ye, Andy, Ren, Jan Ming and Jia Yung). We finished first :). Showered again and then had dinner. At night, We had to go into our fieldwork groups and start drawing the slope of the beach. It wasn't easy. Then we had a Karaoke time. I didn't sing. Too embarrassed. Hehe. We had a choice of coke and sprite to drink. Some people sang and some played pool. Some of my friends and I left early because it was too smoky and couldn't take it. But Mr Moore (my Geography teacher) sang before we left. Our last full day. We were beginning to feel sad. Breakfast. This time, May and I were earlier than the last morning. We were so proud of ourselves! Haha. There was a talk on questionnaires by Mr. Mcadam and Mr. Boardman. Then we had two other geography fieldwork activities. The first was to measure the longshore drift (how fast a cork moves from one point to another) and then to draw the coast. Mine was terrible and my group and I (Ju, May, Ji Ye, Lida and Sisira) lost our cork because it drifted away. We tried to get it but it was too far away. Mr. Mcadam took a video of us! Had a quick shower and was late for lunch. At least there was peace and quiet! We had free time all the way until dinner-a barbeque. All of us just lazed around, not doing anything. Eventually we went to the beach to catch a few waves or to "be the wave" as May puts it. It was really fun but something embarrassing happened to Elaine and I *cough* *cough*. It's our secret! Then we had a dip in the pool. Showered-again and waited for 8:00pm for dinner. All of us had to wear our pareo to the barbeque. It was very dark as we ate in the forest and there were ants and mosquitoes biting us. Not very nice. There was a spider that weaved a web which was quite unappetizing. There was a show which was put on by the hotel staff. Some skits were funny. There was an opening dance. Miss Summerset danced to Sway by the Pussycat Dolls and an Anita Sarawak song. It gave me the chills. Then at the end, we did a dance and had a small bonfire where some of the pupils danced a tribal dance. It was quite amusing. Our very last day :(. For once, May and I was very early for breakfast. Surprising. We were double proud of ourselves :P. After that, we were told to do our environmental survey of four different areas on the hotel grounds. Packed with a sad heart and took last minute photos. Had our last meal of the trip, collected out "packed lunches" and left. It was soo soo sad. Most of wished that we could start on the 12th of October again.Photos and videos coming up!
