Tuesday, August 22, 2006 Oxford, England
I just cam back from Oxford today, about 8 hours ago. Here's what happened, or at least what I can remeber that happened...Day one: We left Edinburgh at 3am in the morning. the car was very cramped as my cousin had a lot of furniture to bring down south. So we actually arrived during lunch time. And what a welcome we had there. Rain. Pouring. All of us gave a hand in moving the furniture out from the car into the house. My cousin is sharing the house with two other friends who also studied in Oxford. By the time we did that, we were all so very tired and plopped ourselves down infront of the television. Eventually, some of us fell asleep. The house was a mess when we moved in. the bathtub was filthy, there were hand prints on the walls, the new carpets stank, stuff were broken, the grass in the back and front garden needed cutting and weeding, etc. Basically, it's stuff you would not what you would like to see in a new house. A cleaner had to come and wash the kitchen floors for us. The cleaner was a man and used our newly bought washing up liquid as a floor cleaner. then we had to wait for a locksmith to come and men the door. He was suppose to come earlier but didn't. So by the time he came, it was nearly dinnertime. For dinner, we had takeaway fich n chips. All of us had to sit on the floor in the house as there weren't any chairs. the fishes were humongous! If that's how you spell it. Heehee. we couldn't finish the chips!Day two: Rach and I shared an air bed and by the time we woke up, it was half flattened. And no, it's not because the both of us were heavy. It happened to my other cousin (which the air bed belongs to). My aunt and uncle had to go to London for some kind of meeting. So the three of us (cousin, Rach and I) went around Oxford, where out cousin was the "tour guide". She showed us around her university, called Merton College. Apparently, J.R.R Tolkein taught there, T.S. Elliot was a student there and C.S. Lewis was inspired to write the book "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" because there was a small stone table there. I must say, Merton College looked very grand. I think my cousin said that Merton College is the oldest university in Oxford. We went for more sight seeing and came across a library which surprisingly hold all the different kinds of books published. Amazing! We finally made it to a main street to do some shopping. After wandering around, we wen into a cafe, called nosebag. The cakes there were delicious! Guess what? It started to pour again. this time, even heavier. A thunder storm, with soft thunders, that is. So we had to stay in the cafe until it stopped. After that, we went out and did more shopping. Then it started to rain, again! Terrible. But we continued walking...and ended up in anothr caf...cafe nero. They sell very strong coffee there. We took the bus back home. And had dinner in a pub called "weatherspoons". I had a lasagna. It was very nice.Day three: The sleep was much better this time round. We had to wake up early to go to a car boot sale. But we got there a bit too late. Heehee. By the time we reached there, some sellers started to pack up. After that, we went round the countryside. Very peaceful, well, except for the racket we were making in the car. A bit of shopping and we looked at a palace. I can't remember the name of the palace though. I though I saw Prince Harry driving out of the palace in a L car. Haha! For dinner, we went into a Chinese-Malaysian-Thai Restaurant, "Yummy". The owner is a Malaysian from Ipoh. Infact, all the workers in that restaurant is a Malaysian. the head waiter tried to speak to us in Malay. And of course, we didn't understand a word. But Rach used her very famous phrase, "Saya tidak tahu bahasa melayu" or however you spell it. Haha! I was stuffed.Day four: Our last day in Oxford. Again, we went to a car boot sale. The first one we went to wanted us to pay up £2 per person! That's like RM14 per person! Expensive. I mean, you could buy a coffee table for that in a car boot sale. Maybe even two! So we went to another one, nearer to Guilford. It wasa BIG!!! Gosh. I had never seen any car boot sale that big before. It took us forever looking around. But then again, we got there late so people started to pack up and all. After that, we went to my cousin in Guilford to pay them a visit. It was so fun there! First we had lunch then played with out littlest cousin's toys. Power Rangers. Haha! How immature, eh? But is was nice to see them once again. Had Chinese takeaway for dinner too. It was so sad to say goodbye to them. I realy hope they all visit us in Malaysia during Christmas. On the was to Oxford, we lost our way so our journey back took about half an hour longer. we packed. And guess what happened. Rach tripped over the last two steps on the staircase...twice! It was quite hilarious, actually. We left Oxford at arounf 1am in the morning.THE END!
